Maharashtra CM Oath Ceremony Highlights Updates: After Oath Ceremony First Meeting Of Maharashtra Cabinet At 7:00 PM

Background

Maharashtra CM Oath Ceremony Highlights Updates: After over two weeks of intense negotiations, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is set to be sworn in as Maharashtra's Chief Minister on Thursday in a grand ceremony at Azad Maidan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend.

Alongside Fadnavis, NCP leader Ajit Pawar and another deputy chief minister will also take the oath at the event in south Mumbai. However, uncertainty looms over including outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the new cabinet.

Fadnavis, 54, emerged as the top contender for the post following the BJP's strong performance in the recent assembly elections, securing 132 seats in the 288-member legislature. This will be his third term as Maharashtra's chief minister.

Fadnavis, joined by Shinde and Pawar, met with state Governor CP Radhakrishnan to formally stake claim to form the government on Wednesday, presenting letters of support from coalition partners, including the Shiv Sena and the NCP.

After the meeting, the governor invited Fadnavis to lead the new government. This is the third time that the BJP leader, an MLA from Nagpur, will be sworn in as chief minister of Maharashtra.

Addressing the potential inclusion of Shinde, Fadnavis expressed optimism, stating he had urged Shinde to join the government. Shinde, however, deferred any announcements regarding his role, promising updates later.

In a bid to reassure Shinde, Fadnavis told news agency PTI, "The Chief Minister's post is a technical arrangement. All three of us will work together unitedly." He also recounted details from a recent meeting with Shinde at the Chief Minister's official residence, emphasising that both the Shiv Sena and Mahayuti members wish for Shinde's involvement in the new government. "I have full faith that he will be with us," he added.

The BJP’s victory in the November 20 elections, with 132 seats, marked its best-ever performance in Maharashtra, solidifying its dominant position in the state’s politics.

Our Govt Will Ensure Good Law And Order Through Home Ministry: Fadnavis After Swearing-In As Maharashtra CM

Reacting over the role of the Home Ministry department, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "Home Ministry is such a department in which you get less thanks and more abuses, but despite that you have to handle this ministry with conviction. I handled it with conviction. In this term too, our government will take all such measures through the Home Ministry to ensure that law and order remains good in Maharashtra, the people of Maharashtra feel safe. We have repeatedly clarified that we are not against caste census. The first caste census that was done in Bihar was done with our support. We always say that do not weaponize caste census... If the census has to be done, then we should first decide what we want to achieve from it and do it accordingly. If an attempt is made to make it a political weapon, then there will be disintegration in the society.

'Eknath Shinde And Ajit Pawar Are With Me:' Devendra Fadnavis After Swearing-In Of Maharashtra CM

After the swearing-in of Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis, told news agency ANI, "I don't believe that there is any such delay (in forming the goverment). Even before this, in 2004, there was a delay of about 12-13 days. In 2009, there was a delay of about 9 days. We will have to understand that when there is a coalition government, many decisions have to be taken. In a coalition government, consultation has to be done on a very large scale. We have done that consultation and we have almost finalized the portfolio as well, there is some left, we will do that as well."

He further added, "Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar are with me. People want a stable government, so they have chosen us and we will stay and work together. We will continue the 'Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana'....We will soon elect the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker as the Cabinet has decided to hold a special session on December 7-8. Governor will address on 9th December."
