Karnataka Polls: HC Disqualifies JD(S) MLA For Luring Voters With Fake Insurance Bonds

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday disqualified the Tumkur rural MLA from Janata Dal (Secular) Gowri Shankar.

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday disqualified the Tumkur rural MLA from Janata Dal (Secular) Gowri Shankar. However, the high court stayed the verdict immediately for a month due to the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

A case was filed against Gowri Shankar in which he was accused of distributing 16,000 fake policy insurance bonds to people. According to the complaint filed against him, he distributed fake bonds with the intention of gathering votes for the 2018 Karnataka Assembly polls, as reported by India Today.

In the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections, Gowri Shankar won from Tumkur rural seat by a margin of 5640 votes. Earlier in 2008, he had contested the election from the Mudhugiri seat and won it.

The Election Commission on Wednesday announced that the Karnataka Assembly election would be held on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13.
