Gujarat Election: Stone Pelted At Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's Roadshow In Surat

The stones were thrown as the Delhi Chief Minister's roadshow passed through a city alley.

Stones were reportedly thrown at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president Arvind Kejriwal at an electoral rally in Surat, Gujarat on Monday. The stones were thrown as the Delhi Chief Minister's roadshow passed through a city alley.

In response to the incident, Delhi CM stated: "I was just coming, so they threw stones at me. What is my fault? If I had done some work for 27 years, there would have been no need to throw stones at me. Their leader says - we will break Kejriwal's legs, break his eyes because I talk about school-hospital."

Highlighting that no incident of stone pelting took place, Police stated: "No incident of stone pelting was reported during (AAP national convenor) Arvind Kejriwal's rally. I was present on the spot. The rally was conducted peacefully. The accused was raising slogans of "Modi-Modi" during Kejriwal's rally, so he has been detained."

Earlier last week, AAP claimed that stones were hurled at a public gathering in the poll-bound state just days before the most recent incident.

Gopal Italia, the leader of Gujarat's Aam Aadmi Party, tweeted a video of the event and claimed that a kid was injured as a result of the stone pelting.

"Due to the fear of losing the Katargam assembly poll, the BJP goons flung stones at my public meeting today, injuring a small child," he tweeted.

According to Kejriwal, the AAP is popular among Gujarat's women and young people. In addition, he predicted that the party will win more than 92 of the state's 182 assembly seats in the 2018 election.

Kejriwal further remarked that despite their hesitation to vote publicly "because to fear of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)," women and youth will vote for AAP.

Gujarat Polls 2022

Gujarat Assembly elections are set to be held in two stages on December 1 and 5, with results announced on December 8, which overlaps with the Himachal Pradesh polls.

In the 2017 Gujarat elections, the BJP was defeated in 99 of 182 seats. The BJP has been in power for the last 27 years, with Modi serving as the state's longest-standing chief minister.

This time, the party is aiming for more than 140 seats under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and CR Patil.

The state has always been a BJP stronghold, and the party has set its eyes on regaining power for a seventh time. From 2001 to 2014, PM Modi was Gujarat's longest-serving chief minister.
