Goa Election: Voting For Congress Is Indirectly Voting For BJP, Claims Arvind Kejriwal Amid AAP Campaign

"People of Goa have only two options (AAP or BJP) in front of them," Kejriwal was quoted by ANI in its report.

New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Goa Assembly elections 2022, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated on Tuesday that the people of Goa have just two choices: AAP or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"People of Goa have only two options (AAP or BJP) in front of them," Kejriwal was quoted by ANI in its report.

According to the Delhi Chief Minister, if people do not vote for the AAP, they are implicitly voting for the BJP.

"I heard that many BJP workers are contesting on Congress' ticket, like in Salcete area, so that they can join BJP later. People need to be aware that if they're not voting for (AAP) they're indirectly voting for BJP... People of Goa have only two options (AAP or BJP) in front of them," Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal arrived in Goa for a four-day campaign.

Speaking to the media after arriving in Panaji, Kejriwal stated that in the past, when citizens voted for Congress, the elected MLAs joined the BJP. He emphasised that voting for the AAP ensures a "clean and honest administration in Goa."

Arvind Kejriwal announced Amit Palekar, a lawyer-turned-politician, as the party's CM candidate ahead of the Goa Assembly elections in 2022 last month.

Goa Legislative Assembly Election 2022

With the term of the current Goa Legislative Assembly expiring on March 15, the Goa Assembly Election will be conducted in one phase, i.e. in the second phase of the Assembly Elections 2022.

The date of polling in Goa is February 14, 2021. The counting of elections will be held for all states on March 10, 2022.

Goa Legislative Assembly Election 2017

Goa elections were last held on February 4, 2017, with Congress emerging as the single largest party with 17 MLAs. The election results threw up a hung assembly in the state with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 13 seats in the 40-member assembly.

BJP managed to form the government with support from regional parties and independents.

However, the BJP formed a government forging an alliance with the support of the Goa Forward Party (GFP), Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), and two Independents, to reach the magic figure of 21 in the 40-member house.
