EPS Rules Out Coalition Govt In 2026, Asserts AIADMK Will Lead Solo If Alliance Wins

AIADMK's Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) declared that his party will form a single-party government in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 elections, even if allied with the BJP.

AIADMK General Secretary and Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami has put to rest speculation about a possible power-sharing arrangement with the BJP in the event of an electoral victory in 2026. Speaking to reporters, EPS made it clear that Tamil Nadu will have a single-party government led by the AIADMK, even if the alliance with the BJP and others wins a majority.

'Stalin Is Scared After AIADMK Formed Alliance With BJP'

"Our alliance is with the Bharatiya Janata Party, and many more parties will come. Stalin thought that Edappadi Palaniswami would not form an alliance with anyone. He is scared after we formed an alliance with the BJP. Our coalition will form the government," EPS said. However, he firmly asserted that he alone would assume the role of Chief Minister, ruling out a coalition cabinet setup.

The statement comes in the backdrop of recent political speculation fueled by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who had hinted at the possibility of a coalition government in Tamil Nadu. EPS’s remarks appear to counter that narrative, signaling AIADMK’s intent to maintain a clear leadership structure post-2026.

While the BJP remains a junior partner in the state with limited electoral traction, the AIADMK hopes the alliance will consolidate anti-DMK votes without diluting its own command over the potential government.
