BJP's Propose Day Victory: Delhi Says 'Yes' To Saffron, Ghosts AAP

Delhi Election Results: BJP has bagged a win in the Delhi elections. What makes the win special is that it came after 26 years in Valentine's week. The next five years will see whether the BJP reciprocates to Delhi's Love

For Delhi voters, the colour of love in the Valentine's Week is not red: it's saffron. After the initial flip-flops in the vote-count trends, the BJP comfortably sailed past the magic figure of 36 towards the afternoon. The Delhi Assembly election results showed that Delhi's heart ached for its ex — the Bharatiya Janata Party.

It's ironic, that Delhi's love for the BJP bloomed in the Valentine's Week. The party that leans towards celebrating "Matru-Pitru Divas", a day dedicated to parents, on February 14, the Valentine's Day, got the "Yes" from Delhi's voters on 'Propose Day',the second day of the Valentine's Week.

Sadly, the Aam Aadmi Party simply couldn't impress Delhi's public with their promises and Arvind Kejriwal was simply ghosted by the voters.

This Valentine's Week will be filled with analyses of how the long-lost flame of love with the BJP was ignited. Whether it was Kejriwal's failure to deliver on the promises of water supply and Yamuna clean-up, or was it the BJP's promises of matrimonial leaves and freebies — what caught Delhi's fancy will be revealed in due time.

But on February 9, 'Chocolate Day', the BJP will be relishing the chocolates sent its way by Delhiites. The win has also cemented PM Modi's image in Delhi's assembly constituencies, which took a beating in the last two elections in 2015 and 2020. But whether PM Modi is the 'teddy' who brings Delhi's bundle of joy remains to be seen.

With the BJP triumph, Delhi's task is cut out — starting on February 11, 'Promise Day', it must hold the BJP accountable for its promises. There can be no compromise on the clean-up of the Yamuna, which is biologically dead. Delhiites must also see to it that the BJP delivers on its promises of 'free' electricity and water, which is actually 'prepaid' by the public through taxes.

While Delhiites have returned to the saffron embrace, they need to make it clear that the BJP will get a hug on February 12, 2030, Hug Day',  only if the party outperforms the AAP's 10-year rule. Otherwise, the saffron party can kiss its chances 'goodbye' before Kiss Day in the next elections.

Finally, whether the BJP likes it or not, Delhi will be celebrating its Valentine's Day in saffron. BJP would do well to soak in a bit of love with its lost love after 27 years. Hopefully, Delhi will also get its CM before that and there will be no dilly-dally as it happened in Maharashtra.
