"I thank the people of Kalkaji for showing trust in me. I congratulate my team who worked against 'baahubal'. We accept the people's mandate. I have won but it's not a time to celebrate but continue the 'war' against the BJP," she said.
Atishi bagged a last-minute win on the Kalkaji seat by a narrow margin of just over 3,500 votes. BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri, who was among the CM probables, lost to Atishi. The Kalkaji election campaign saw an intense fight with Ramesh Bidhuri making personal remarks against Atishi.
At one point, Atishi broke down at a press conference over a remark made on her surname by Bidhuri.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a historic comeback to power in Delhi after a hiatus of 27 years, with wins in 48 seats and defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who managed to clinch only 22 seats.
The BJP's victory was made even more significant as several AAP stalwarts, including party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Avadh Ojha lost their seats in a major setback for the party.
With the BJP's return to the capital, all eyes are on the party's promises made during the poll campaign — health insurance, free electricity, jobs and schemes for women. Afterall, the party came to power riding on these promises.
