Delhi Election: Avadh Ojha’s Vote Transfer Finalised, AAP Candidate To File Nomination On January 15

Delhi Election 2025: Arvind Kejriwal-led delegation met ECI over concerns about vote transfer issues for candidate Avadh Ojha. Despite submitting Form 8 on time, the deadline was allegedly altered, as per AAP.

Delhi Election 2025: A delegation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, led by the party's national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, met Election Commission of India (ECI) officials on Monday to address issues surrounding the vote transfer of their Patparganj candidate, Avadh Ojha. Kejriwal stated that the matter was critical as Ojha’s ability to contest the elections hinged on the transfer of his vote from Greater Noida to Delhi.

The AAP candidate from Patparganj, Avadh Ojha, is now set to file his nomination papers on January 15.

Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal alleged irregularities in the deadline for filing Form 8 for vote transfer. He claimed that while Ojha submitted his form on 7 January, the last permissible date, the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer subsequently altered the deadline to 6 January, which, according to him, contravened legal provisions. Kejriwal suspected that this was a deliberate attempt to debar Ojha from contesting.

The AAP delegation, which included Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and AAP MPs Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha, met ECI to address the issue.

After the meeting, Kejriwal expressed satisfaction, stating, “We are just coming back after meeting the Election Commission... The Election Commission has ordered to shift the vote of Avadh Ojha, and he will be a Delhi voter and will be able to cast his vote... he will be able to file his nomination too…”

Ojha also confirmed the resolution of the issue, saying, “They said that my issue is sorted out. Tomorrow my admit card will be ready, and I will file my nomination the day after tomorrow.”

Speaking to the media, Avadh Ojha expressed satisfaction over the ECI's assurance and informed that his admit card will be ready tomorrow and nomination filing happen on January 15.

Delhi Election 2025: Arvind Kejriwal Raises Allegations Against BJP In Meeting With ECI

In addition to Ojha’s vote transfer, the delegation raised concerns about alleged voter fraud in the New Delhi constituency, where multiple voter registrations were reportedly linked to addresses of senior BJP leaders. Kejriwal reiterated his allegations, adding, “The Election Commission has given full assurance that under no circumstances even a single wrong vote will be allowed to be cast.”

He further accused BJP members of distributing blankets, shoes, jackets, money, and spectacles to voters in Kidwai Nagar and appreciated the ECI’s assurance to curb such activities. “We are very grateful to the Election Commission for their response,” Kejriwal remarked.

The Delhi assembly election will be held on February 5 and the results are slated to be declared on February 8.
