Congress Leads On Over 95 Lok Sabha Seats As Per ECI, Nearly Doubles 2019 LS Tally
Congress is leading on 96-97 Lok Sabha Seats as per early trend projections by the ECI, which is nearly double its 2019 Lok Sabha tally.
The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is currently underway and the early trends, as projected by the Election Commission of India show that the Congress is leading on over 95 seats. This figure is almost double than the 52-seat mark, the grand old party achieved in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party as per the early trends has reached the 238-seat mark. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the saffron party won for the second time, bagging 303 seats.
The vote counting process has been a roller coaster ride ever since it began at 8 AM this morning.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is leading from both Raebareli as well as Wayanad. The other seats where the Congress is leading include Jorhat, South Goa, Sirsa, Hisar, Ambala, Kannaur, Rohtak, Gurgaon, Amravati, Jalna, Latur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Churu among others.
In a surprising turn of events, Congress loyalist is leading at the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, leaving behind incumbent MP and BJP leader Smriti Irani. In Uttar Pradesh six BJP candidates are trailing including Ayodhya BJP candidate Lallu Singh, Kaushal Kishore and Ajay Mishra.
Samajwadi Party, which won mere five seats in the previous general elections, is leading with 34 seats as of now, as per EC's early trends.
The Trinamool Congress, which secured 22 seats in the previous elections, is leading on 29 seats.
The early trends seem to be contradicting the projections of the exit polls, which predicted the opposition alliance would bag 152-182 seats. According to the ABP-CVoter survey, the BJP-led alliance was projected to win 353 to 383 seats of the total 543 Lok Sabha seats. But the ongoing neck and neck political battle between the two major alliances amid vote counting suggests otherwise.
