Jharsuguda Bypolls: Congress Announces Tarun Pandey As Candidate, President Kharge Gives Nod

Mallikarjun Kharge approves the candidature of Tarun Pandey as Congress candidate for the ensuing bye-election to the Legislative Assembly of Odisha from Jharsuguda Constituency.

Congress has announced Tarun Pandey, the son of former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Biren Pandey, as its candidate for the upcoming Jharsuguda assembly constituency byelection in Odisha.  Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday approved Pandey's name to represent the party in the election.

The bypoll was necessitated following the murder of Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das by a policeman on January 29.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the ruling party in the state, has already announced Dipali Das, the daughter of the late Naba Kishore Das, as its nominee. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has yet to announce its candidate for the election.

Nominations for the byelection can be filed until April 20, with a review taking place on April 21. Candidates have until April 24 to retract their nominations. The Jharsuguda byelection is scheduled for May 10, coinciding with the Karnataka assembly polls, with vote counting taking place on May 13.
