Chhattisgarh Polls 2023: BJP Releases 2nd List Of 64 Candidates, Fields Ex-CM Raman Singh From Rajnandgaon

The party fielded former Chhattisgarh chief minister and BJP national vice-president Raman Singh from Rajnandgaon seat, where he is the incumbent MLA.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released its second list of candidates for the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly elections, showcasing a roster of 64 contenders. The party fielded former Chhattisgarh chief minister and BJP national vice-president Raman Singh from Rajnandgaon seat, where he is the incumbent MLA.

BJP has fielded Lok Sabha MP Renuka Singh from Bharatpur-Sonhat, state BJP chief Arun Sao from Lomri, Ishwar Sahu from Saja, OP Choudhary from Raigarh, Ram Kumar Toppo from Sitapur, and Nankiram Kanwar from Rampur, among others.

Notably, the Election Commission today announced the election schedule for the upcoming Chhattisgarh elections. All 90 assembly seats in Chhattisgarh will go to polls on November 7 and November 17, with the results to be revealed on December 3.

The election schedule for Chhattisgarh 2023 is as follows:

Chhattisgarh Election 2023: Phase 1 (20 Constituencies)

Date of notification: October 13

Chhattisgarh Election 2023: Phase 2 (70 Constituencies)

In the previous state elections held in 2018, the Indian National Congress (INC) managed to secure a landslide victory, ending 15 years of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule. The INC won 68 out of the 90 assembly seats and the BJP, on the other hand, faced a significant setback, securing only 15 seats. This electoral victory of the Congress party led to the formation of the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

The upcoming contest promises to be fiercely competitive, with both the INC and the BJP vying for power. Moreover, regional parties and alliances are also expected to play a significant role in shaping the electoral outcome.
