Assembly Election 2023 Live: Hello and welcome to ABP Live Assembly Elections 2023 Live Blog. Follow this space for all the latest developments on polls to the five state assemblies.
The Assembly polls in the five states will be held between November 7 and November 30. Mizoram will go to polls on November 7, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25, and Telangana on November 30 while Chhattisgarh will vote in two phases on November 7 and November 17.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to deliver a crucial election rally in Chhattisgarh, which is currently under Congress rule. This event marks his first public appearance in the state since the announcement of the election schedule.
The PM's rally will take place in Kanker district, an area significantly affected by Naxalite insurgencies. Kanker is one of the districts that will go to the polls in the first phase of the two-phased elections in the state, as revealed by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) official speaking to the news agency PTI.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive at the Raipur airport at 12.55 pm on Thursday, flying in on an Indian Air Force aircraft before departing for Kanker via helicopter. The rally is scheduled to commence at 3 pm in Kanker town.
The local authorities have implemented a comprehensive security arrangement at the rally venue to ensure the safety of attendees. A multi-layered security cordon has been established, involving personnel from the state police, paramilitary forces, and the Special Protection Group (SPG). The district is situated approximately 150 kilometers north of the state capital, Raipur, in the Bastar region.
Simultaneously, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be actively campaigning in Rajnandgaon and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki districts of Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had held power in Chhattisgarh for 15 years under the leadership of Raman Singh from 2003 to 2018, experienced a substantial setback in the 2018 assembly elections when the Congress party emerged victorious. Presently, the BJP is striving to regain control of the state in these upcoming elections.
Chhattisgarh's 90-member state assembly will witness voting in two phases on November 7 and 17. The first phase will encompass twenty constituencies situated in seven districts of the Maoist-affected Bastar division, along with Rajnandgaon, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Kabirdham, and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai districts. The remaining 70 constituencies will go to the polls in the second phase. The results of the elections will be tabulated and announced on December 3.
