Silchar: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Sushmita Dev from Indian National Congress (INC) won the elections by a margin of 35241 votes. The polling / voting in Silchar constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Rajdeep Roy Bengali and Congress Party#s Smt.sushmita dev

Silchar 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 7 out of the 14 parliamentary seat with 36.5 percent vote share while the All India United Democratic Front managed to win just 3 seats with a 14.8 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Silchar Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 75.44% Lok Sabha percent with 77.35% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Out of the 17 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Silchar, 15 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Sushmita Dev of the Indian National Congress as he defeated Kabindra Purkayastha by a margin of 35241 votes.

  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Sontosh Mohan Dev attained 329256 votes and BJP's Kabindra Purkayastha bagged 221504 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 19940 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Kabindra Purkayastha attained 230747 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Santosh Mohan Dev bagged 210807 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 68141 votes INC candidate Sontosh Mohan Deb had got 237804 while BJP got Kabindra Purkayastha votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Communist Party of India candidate with a difference of 10851 votes.   • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 18606 votes.
