Shillong: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Vincent H. Pala from Indian National Congress (INC) won the elections by a margin of 40379 votes. The polling / voting in Shillong constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 1 on 11 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Sanbor Shullai and Congress Party#s Vincent h. Pala

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Indian National Congress won 1 out of the 2 parliamentary seat with 37.9 percent vote share while the National People's Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

Here, Indian National Congress leader Paty Ripple Kyndiah attained 145020 votes and United Democratic Party candidate Stanlington D. Khongwir bagged 107197 votes
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and United Democratic Party here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his United Democratic Party counterpart with a difference of 6012 votes.
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Independent candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 79302 votes IND candidate G.Gilbert Swell had got 212205 while INC got D.D.Lapang votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Independent candidate with a difference of 19390 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Peter G. Marbaniang attained 144895 votes and Independent candidate G.G. Swell bagged 125505 votes
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Independent candidate with a difference of 13285 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Peter G.Marbaning attained 148657 votes and Independent candidate G.G.Swell bagged 135372 votes
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Independent candidate by a margin of 50826 votes INC candidate G.G.Swell had got 142638 while IND got Pakem votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Independent and INC here Independent candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 4765 votes.

घटना दुर्दैवी आहे. यापूर्वी पूल दुर्घटना घडल्यानंतर शासनाने गंभीर दखल घेत स्ट्रक्चरल ऑडिट केले आहे. मात्र तरीही अशी दुर्घटना घडते. या घटनेच्या चौकशीचे आदेश दिले आहेत. जबाबदार असणाऱ्यांवर कठोर कारवाई केली जाईल. कुणालाही सोडलं जाणार नाही- उद्योगमंत्री सुभाष देसाई यांची प्रतिक्रिया
