Mathurapur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Choudhury Mohan Jatua from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the elections by a margin of 138768 votes. The polling / voting in Mathurapur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 7 on 19 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Shyama Prasad Halder and All India Trinamool Congress#s Choudhary Mohan Jatua

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

Out of the 10 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mathurapur, 8 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Choudhury Mohan Jatua of the All India Trinamool Congress as he defeated Rinku Naskar by a margin of 138768 votes.

  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated All India Trinamool Congress candidate by a margin of 51725 votes CPM candidate Radhika Ranjan Pramanik had got 382962 while AITC got Gobinda Chandra Naskar votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India candidate defated WBTC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate Radhika Ranjan Pramanik attained 393635 votes and WBTC's Jagaranjan Haldar bagged 291759 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 16068 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Radhika Ranjan Pramanik attained 410110 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Sujit Patwari bagged 394042 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 19746 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Radhika Ranjan Pramanick attained 342708 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Monoranjan Haldher bagged 322962 votes
