Background

Mathurapur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Choudhury Mohan Jatua from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the elections by a margin of 138768 votes. The polling / voting in Mathurapur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 7 on 19 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Shyama Prasad Halder and All India Trinamool Congress#s Choudhary Mohan Jatua

Mathurapur 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Mathurapur Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 85.00% Lok Sabha percent with 85.44% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 84.53% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 9342 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 10 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mathurapur, 8 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Choudhury Mohan Jatua of the All India Trinamool Congress as he defeated Rinku Naskar by a margin of 138768 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated All India Trinamool Congress candidate by a margin of 82028 votes CPM candidate Basudeb Barman had got 440862 while AITC got Radhika Ranjan Pramanik votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated All India Trinamool Congress candidate by a margin of 51725 votes CPM candidate Radhika Ranjan Pramanik had got 382962 while AITC got Gobinda Chandra Naskar votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India candidate defated WBTC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate Radhika Ranjan Pramanik attained 393635 votes and WBTC's Jagaranjan Haldar bagged 291759 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 16068 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Radhika Ranjan Pramanik attained 410110 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Sujit Patwari bagged 394042 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 19746 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Radhika Ranjan Pramanick attained 342708 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Monoranjan Haldher bagged 322962 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 22632 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Radhikaranjan Pramanik attained 359941 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Manoranjan Halder bagged 337309 votes
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and Communist Party of India here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his Communist Party of India counterpart with a difference of 2299 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 77842 votes CPM candidate Mukundaram Mandal had got 262917 while INC(I) got Bimlendu Sekhar Naskar votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 41592 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Mukunda Kumar Mondal attained 188227 votes and INC candidate Purnendu Sekhar Naskar bagged 146635 votes
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India and INC here Communist Party of India candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 1585 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 13115 votes. Here, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader K. Haldar attained 185300 votes and INC candidate P. S. Naskar bagged 172185 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and CPI here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his CPI counterpart with a difference of 7266 votes.
