Mahasamund: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Chandu Lal Sahu (Chandu Bhaiya) from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 1217 votes. The polling / voting in Mahasamund constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Chunnilal Sahu and Congress Party#s Dhanendra sahu

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 10 out of the 11 parliamentary seat with 48.7 percent vote share while the Indian National Congress managed to win just 1 seats with a 38.4 percent vote share.

Out of the 27 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mahasamund, 25 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Chandu Lal Sahu (Chandu Bhaiya) of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Ajit Jogi by a margin of 1217 votes.

• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 15435 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Shyama Charan Shukla attained 340635 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Chandra Shekhar Sahu " Champu" bagged 325200 votes
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 47732 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Chandrashekhar Sahu (Champu) attained 332874 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Pawan Diwan bagged 285142 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janta Party here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his Bharatiya Janta Party counterpart with a difference of 6940 votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 21479 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Pawan Diwan attained 205362 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Chandrashekar Sahu bagged 183883 votes
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 12894 votes. Here, JD leader Vidyacharan Shukla attained 243126 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Pawan Diwan bagged 230232 votes
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Vidyacharan Shukla attained 233325 votes and BJP's Ramesh bagged 94185 votes.
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate Vidya Charan Shukla Ravishankar Shukla attained 169098 votes and JNP's Brijlal Verma bagged 67201 votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, BLD candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 79527 votes BLD candidate Brijlal Verma had got 182054 while INC got Shrikrishna Agrawal votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated BJS candidate with a difference of 15557 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Krishna Agrawal attained 82804 votes and BJS candidate Gyashtri Kumari bagged 67247 votes
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BJS candidate by a margin of 66086 votes INC candidate V. Shukla had got 103885 while BJS got D. Singh votes.
• 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and PSP here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his PSP counterpart with a difference of 2792 votes.
• 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated KMPP candidate by a margin of 62594 votes INC candidate Sheodas Daga had got 110886 while KMPP got Adwaitgir votes.

चार महिन्यांच्या चिमुकलीला घेऊन वर्ध्यातील दाम्पत्याने मतदानाचा हक्क बजावला. मतदान करणं एक जबाबदारी आहे. ही जबाबदारी शेख दाम्पत्याने पूर्ण केली. त्यामुळे 5 वर्षातून एकदा होणाऱ्या या उत्सवात सहभागी होत मतदानाचा हक्क त्यांनी बजावून दाम्पत्याने आई-वडिलांसह मतदानाचं कर्तव्यही पार पाडलं. जिल्हा परिषद येथे चार महिन्याच्या चिमुकलीला घेऊन येत त्यांनी मतदान केले. आफ्रिन शेख असे या महिलेचे नाव असून शहाबाज असे मुलीच्या वडिलांचे नाव आहे. सहकुटुंब 42 अंश सल्सिअस तापमानात या दाम्पत्याने चिमुकलीसह येत मतदान केलं.

गडचिरोलीत कालच्या स्फोटानंतर सुरु असलेल्या ऑपरेशन्स आणि सततच्या गोळीबारामुळे निवडणूक कर्मचारी वेळेत चार मतदान केंद्रावर पोहोचू शकले नाहीत. त्यामुळे इथलं मतदान पुढे ढकलण्यात आलं आहे.
