Who Is Shakti Dubey? UPSC 2024 Topper From Prayagraj, Know Her Education And Journey

Shakti Dubey, a Biochemistry graduate from Prayagraj, has topped the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. Inspired by her father's police service, she chose civil services to contribute to public welfare.

Shakti Dubey has secured the top rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2024, the results of which were declared on Tuesday. According to a statement issued by the UPSC, Dubey completed her graduation in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad. She chose Political Science and International Relations as her optional subject for the examination.

Who Is Shakti Dubey?

Dubey hails from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where she also completed her schooling and college education. She later pursued her postgraduation in Biochemistry from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). She began her preparation for the civil services examination in 2018.

Speaking in a mock interview conducted by Chahal Academy and hosted on its YouTube channel, Dubey attributed her decision to join the civil services to her family background. She said, “My father is in police service and I have seen him working. Initially I thought it was just a job but later I realised during my time at BHU hostel, I realised that police or its vehicle make a person feel safe even if it’s late. I realised how a small power can bring a change for somebody and how public service at large is benefitting people. So this is how I was attracted to government service in the first place.”

She also acknowledged her parents’ role in supporting her career decision, stating that she had consulted them before opting for civil services and they stood by her throughout the journey.

Expressing happiness over the achievement, her mother, Prema Dubey, told news agency ANI, "I am very happy but she has been able to achieve this rank because of the blessings of Mahadev. I had no role to play. She studied day and night. She is in Delhi and will come home tomorrow..."
