Momo Challenge: After ICSE, now CBSE issues advisory against deadly game

Momo Challenge: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an advisory to all the schools affiliated to it against another unsettling “game” called the Momo challenge. Just like the horrific 'blue whale challenge' that created a lot of buzz among the youths and tempted them to perform dangerous tasks, Momo challenge too has a series of tasks to be completed that eventually leads to self-harm — the final of which is to commit suicide. As per the report by the Indian Express, the Board has forwarded an advisory of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), which provides measures on “how to protect your child” from the game. In its circular dated September 19, the CBSE warned public against certain commercial websites which are using the board’s logo to mislead students. In the advisory by the board, it said, “It has come to notice of the board that various commercial websites have created CBSE look-alike pages with the logo of CBSE on social networking sites for registration of candidates. This is creating confusion among the public.” The CBSE has asked people to visit its official website for any query. “The members of the public are, therefore, advised to visit CBSE official website for authentic and official information and prevent themselves from being cheated by the unscrupulous elements. Any information available or displayed other than the CBSE website must be got verified from the official website. CBSE never asks for any details directly from the students through e-mail, facebook, twitter, phone or any other source,” it added. Earlier, the Association of Heads of ICSE schools, West Bengal, had called upon all member schools to urge parents to keep a watch on their children after the reports of Whatsapp messages inviting youngsters to play an online game 'Momo Challenge' surfaced. The Association's West Bengal unit general secretary Nabarun Dey told PTI, they did not receive any report about student of any school having received such message, nor had the Association been given any 'Advisory' by the CID or the police till date on the issue.
