Himachal Pradesh Flash Floods: All Schools, Anganwaris In Kinnaur Closed Till July 22 Due To Rain Fury

All schools in Himachal’s Nichar Subdivision and Tehsil Sangla have been closed till July 22, due to monsoon fury.

All government and private schools, pre-schools as well as Anganwaris in the Nichar Subdivision and Tehsil Sangla in Himachal Pradesh’ Kinnaur district have been closed for three days, till July 22, 2023. The closure of schools in the district comes following apprehensions of flash floods and landslides in the region. The Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur District announced the closure of schools in various parts of the district this morning. 

The office of the Deputy Commissioner announced the closure of schools through an official notification. “Whereas, light to moderate rainfall at few places is expected for the next 3 Days. There is apprehension of Flash Floods  and Landslides in Sub-division Nichar and Tehsil Sangla District Kinnaur. Therefore, keeping in view the critical situation and apprehension of Loss/ damage of Life and property due to ongoing rainfall, I Torul S Raveesh, I.A.S Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman DDMA Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh in exercise of power conferred upon me under Section 34 of DM Act 2005, do hereby order the closure of all Government/private schools (HPBOSE/CBSE/ICSE etc.) pre schools, Anganwaris of Sub Division Nichar and Tehsil Sangla, District Kinnaur from 20th July to 22nd July 2023. The concerned Sub Division Magistrate will review the rainfall status in their sub-division and may revise this order accordingly,” reads the official notice.

Notably, a cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh’ yesterday triggered a flood-like situation in the region. While the cloudburst caused flooding in Tong Tong Che and Kamroo Nallah, the Karcham Sangla Chitkul road was blocked at several places. Few days back, severe monsoon rainfall and cloudburst in the Thunag region of Mandi, caused significant damage and chaos in various parts of Himachal Pradesh, washing away streets, roads, bridges and houses. Considering the situation amid disrupted connectivity within the state, the Himachal government called for closure of schools earlier as well, and also rescheduled the HPPSC Prelims Exam 2023.
