Deakin University Inaugurates Its Gift City Campus In Gujarat, First Foreign Varsity In India Comes Alive
Application process for admissions in Deakin University Gift City Campus is open, and the last date to apply is March 31, 2024.
Gandhinagar: Deakin University on Wednesday inaugurated its first international campus in Gift City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The inauguration marks the launch of the first foreign varsity campus on Indian soil, which also aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). Ahead of the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met officials from Deakin University and discussed ways to enhance collaborative efforts between government and academic institutions pertaining to cyber security. Deakin has been in India for 30 years.
The launch event was held on the sidelines of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, and was graced by distinguished guests from government, academia and industry including Deakin alumni Princess Jahanvi Kumari Mewar. Also present in the meeting were John Stanhope AM, Chancellor, Professor Iain Martin, Vice-Chancellor, and Ravneet Pawha, Vice-President (Global Alliances) and CEO (South Asia).
“Australia setting up India’s first ever foreign university campus is a landmark moment in Australia-India relations. This opens a new chapter in our education ties, and this is only the beginning,” Philip Green OAM, Australian High Commissioner to India, said in his address during the inauguration event.
"Opening the world's first international branch campus in India reflects our commitment to offering global education that empowers students to excel in the digital age. This is an investment in the future leaders who will uphold and strengthen the bond between our nations," Professor Martin said at the event. Earlier, Professor Martin also represented Australia in a CEO roundtable with Prime Minister Modi.
Deakin University’s Gift City campus in Gujarat is also the varsity’s first-ever international campus, which aims at providing future-ready and world-class postgraduate courses in business analytics and cyber security at a significantly lesser cost compared to its Australian operations. Deakin University is among the Top 1% universities worldwide, and is known for its dynamic and forward-thinking approach.
During the inauguration ceremony, Ms Ravneet Pawha, Deakin Vice-President (Global Alliances) and CEO (South Asia), hailed the opening of Deakin’s Gift City campus dressing it as a key s an exciting time for cross-cultural education between Australia and India. “Our bold vision for GIFT City is to be a regional hub in the future, attracting students from across the globe to India, and offering Australian students a unique opportunity to spend a trimester at Gujarat,” she said.
Deakin University Gift City Campus Gujarat: Programmes, Fees, And Scholarships
In its first batch, the Deakin University Gift City Campus will offer two postgraduate programmes of two-year duration (fast-tracked to 18 months) in Business Analytics, Cyber Security, recognised by Australian Computer Society. The fee for the programmes for Indian students has been marked as 21.4 Lakh INR.
The university will also provide two 100% scholarships for candidates from economically challenged backgrounds, covering full tuition, boarding and accommodation. The varsity also plans to launch short-term in-campus programmes in the near future.
Applications for Deakin University Gift City Campus are underway, and candidates can apply for the same till March 31, 2024.
