CUET 2022: First Phase Of CUET Begins, Fate Of 14.9 Lakh Candidates To Be Decided
The CUET has now become the second largest entrance exam in the country with 14.9 lakh candidates.
New Delhi: The first phase of the Common University Entrance Test, CUET 2022, began today, July 15, under the supervision of the National Testing Agency. The exam is being held in 500 cities across the country and in 10 cities abroad. The CUET has now become the second largest entrance exam in the country with 14.9 lakhs candidates, surpassing JEE-Main's average registration of nine lakh. NEET-UG is the biggest entrance test in India with an average of 18 lakh registration.
The exam will be conducted in two phases. Phase 1 will be held in July and Phase 2 in August. Candidates who have opted for Physics, Chemistry or Biology have been assigned to Phase 2 of the CUET exam as NEET (UG) - 2022 is scheduled to be held on July 17.
The computer-based test with MCQs will be divided into three sections – Section I (IA and IB) for language proficiency, Section II for core topic knowledge and Section III for general knowledge.
The exam will be held in two shifts, from 9 am to 12:15 pm and in the evening from 3 pm to 6:45 pm.
The scores will be calculated in the percentile format. The score will indicate the position of a candidate vis-a-vis other candidates who take the test. It is an indicator of the relative position of the candidate. These will have negative markings, one mark will be deducted for each wrong answer but there will be no penalty for not attempting questions.
Out of the total 14.9 lakh candidates, around 8.1 lakh candidates are scheduled to give the exam in the first slot and 6.8 lakh candidates in the second. These candidates have applied for 54,555 unique combinations of subjects across 90 universities
"Given such a large number of subjects, a unique date sheet has been created for every individual candidate. Accordingly, advance intimation slips have been issued to all candidates with the date and city of the exam, followed by admit cards," University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar told PTI
A total of 44 central universities, 12 state universities, 11 deemed universities, and 19 private universities have applied to participate in the first edition of CUET-UG for admissions in the academic session 2022-23.
