"No CBSE board exams to take place in January or February. The current scenario is in-conducive for exams. A decision on exams will be taken later," Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal said. The main concerns at this point were regarding upcoming CBSE exams, state board syllabus, exam patterns, and exam dates. The students have been anxiously awaiting the schedule for the CBSE Board examinations 2021. While there will be no exams before February 2021, promoting students without any exam is also out of question. "Cancelling exams and promoting students without exams will put a stamp on these students. These students might face trouble in getting jobs and admissions at higher education level in the future as they would be termed as Covid-era students. We do not want that for them," he added. There will be physical exams as "we need a laptop and stable internet and electricity for each student which is a challenge. A percentage of students do not have equal access to education. While we have used unique methods to teach students but having such methods for exams might not be fair," Pokhriyal said. The CBSE board exams will be conducted on a subsidised syllabus. 30 percent of the total syllabus has been removed this time. Some states have already made an announcement in this regard while others are likely to do so soon. As informed, there will be 33 percent internal choices in the exam. Various teachers have also reported the problems they faced during online classes including internet connectivity, lack of access to proper devices like mobile phones or laptops. They have also expressed an issue over the lack of practical sessions held in the year taken over by the Coronavirus pandemic and hence, have requested to not have practical examinations for CBSE students this time.
