Asia University Rankings 2023: IISc Claims Top Spot As India's Leading University, 18 Indian Universities In Top 200

Asia University Rankings 2023: In this year's rankings, India has one university positioned within the top 50, four universities within the top 100, and a total of 18 universities within the top 200.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has secured the highest position among Indian universities in Times Higher Education’s (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023 with 48th position. According to THE's press release, India has one university in the top 50, four universities in the top 100, and a total of 18 universities in the top 200 this year.

Following IISc, the second-highest ranked Indian university is JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, positioned at 68th in Asia. Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences takes the third spot at 77th, while Mahatma Gandhi University shares the fourth spot at 95th with Xi'an Jiaotong University from China.

In terms of the number of universities featured in the rankings, India secures the third position with 75 universities listed. Japan holds the first position with 117 universities, followed by China with 95 universities.

Compared to last year's rankings where 17 higher education institutions were included in the top 200, this year there have been some changes. JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research retains its position as the second-highest ranked university, now at 68th place, compared to its previous rank of 65th in 2022. Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences has made its debut in the top 200, securing the 77th position. Mahatma Gandhi University follows closely at 95th place.

However, a few universities that were previously part of the top 200 have dropped out this year. Jawaharlal Nehru University, ranked 167th in 2022, and IIT Gandhinagar, ranked 120th last year, are notable names that are no longer included in the top 200.
