MCD Polls 2022: BJP Confident About Retaining Power, AAP Urges To Vote For 'Corruption Free' Corporation

The polling for the civic polls started at 8 am today and will continue until 5:30 pm with 1,349 candidates in the fray. The votes will be counted on December 7.

New Delhi: As the polling starts for the 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today, the Delhi Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party, Delhi president urged the voter to come out in large numbers to the polling booths to exercise the franchise.

“Today, there is voting to make Delhi clean and beautiful, there is voting to make a corruption free government in the Municipal Corporation,” said AAP chief Arvind Kerjiwal in a tweet.

“My appeal to all the Delhiites - do go to cast your vote today to form an honest and working government in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi,” the Aam Aadmi Party chief added.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also urged the voters to vote in large numbers and appealed to vote for a clean Delhi.

“First thing to remember is that MCD’s job is to clean the city’s trash, give licences to traders, develop drains and parks. Vote thinking that you are voting for making Delhi clean and eliminating corruption from the civic body,” he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta also requested the voters to exercise their franchise and particularly requested the young voters to come out to vote.

“Today is the polling day for MCD Election and I request all the new voters to come out and vote as there is enthusiasm of being the first time voter,” said Gupta appealing to people to vote for BJP.

Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken also asked the voters to "see the candidate and vote accordingly".

"People should see the candidates and vote accordingly. Congress candidates are good and people should vote for the candidate which will be available for them after polls," he said.

The polling for the civic polls started at 8 am today and will continue until 5:30 pm with 1,349 candidates in the fray. The votes will be counted on December 7.

This will be the first civic polls in Delhi after the fresh delimitation exercise, and the voting is being held days after the first phase of the Gujarat assembly elections, and a day ahead of its second phase. There were 272 wards in Delhi and three corporations -- NDMC, SDMC and EDMC -- in Delhi from 2012-2022, before being reunified into an MCD which has 250 wards.
