'Was Left With No Choice But To...': Atishi As Her Hunger Strike Over Delhi Water Crisis Enters Day-2

Delhi Water Crisis: Atishi said that the city receives a total of 1005 MGD of water from its neighbouring states, and out of the total water supply, 613 MGD of water comes from Haryana.

Delhi Water Crisis: As Delhi continues to battle the water crisis amid the sorching heat, Delhi's Water Minister and AAP leader Atishi, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike over the issue, said on Saturday that she will continue her fast until Haryana Government supplies water to the national capital and 28 lakh people of the city get access to water.

The Delhi Minister said that the city receives a total of 1005 MGD of water from its neighbouring states and out of the total water supply  613 MGD of water comes from Haryana. She claimed that Haryana has been releasing only 513 MGD of water for the past several weeks.

"I was left with no choice but to sit on a fast...Even today, the situation of water crisis persists," Atishi said on the second day of her indefinite hunger strike.

"This is the second day of my fast. There is an acute shortage of water in Delhi...Delhi receives water from its neighbouring states. Delhi receives a total of 1005 MGD of water that is supplied to the houses in Delhi. Of this, 613 MGD of water comes from Haryana but for the past several weeks, it has been releasing only 513 MGD...Due to this more than 28 lakh people in Delhi are not receiving water...I tried everything but when Haryana Government didn't agree to supply water, I was left with no choice but to sit on a fast...Even today, the situation of water crisis persists," Atishi said.

"Yesterday, Haryana supplied 110 MGD lesser amount of water (than the designated)...I will continue my fast until Haryana Government supplies water to Delhi, until 28 lakh people of Delhi get water," she further stated.

Atishi sat on an indefinite hunger strike on Friday, alleging that the Haryana government is not releasing the capital’s share of water. She was accompanied by AAP leader Sanjay Singh and other members of the party at Bhogal, near Jangpura where she sat on an indefinite hunger strike.

The AAP leader paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before heading to Bhogal.
