New Delhi: One person was arrested on Saturday over his alleged connection with the murder of a woman, whose body was found near a Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run school in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar, news agency PTI quoted police as saying. According to police, the arrested person has been identified as Gurpreet. On interrogation, it was found the deceased was a Swiss national from Zurich, police said as reported by news agency ANI.

Earlier on Friday, the body of a woman, in her late 30s, was found in Tilak Nagar with her hand and legs tied with metal chains. The upper part of her body was covered with a black garbage disposal bag. She was spotted by a passerby near the wall of the MCD school.

Police said the body had decomposed by the time it was discovered and added that prima facie it appeared the killer had tried to disfigure her face, PTI reported.

The spot was inspected by the forensic and crime teams as well as doctors from the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, police said.

"The upper portion of the body was wrapped with a black plastic poly bag. She was wearing a one piece knee length gown. A sexual assault on the woman cannot be ascertained at this point in time," the news agency quoted a police officer as saying.

Police said that after scanning the CCTV footage of nearby areas, they found the body was brought to the spot in a car.

"The registration number was accessed, and a team traced the vehicle's owner. The owner said she had sold the car two months ago," PTI quoted a police official as saying. He added further investigation on the matter is underway.

Taking note of the incident, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal posted on X, “A heart-wrenching case has come to light where a dead body of a girl was found with her hands and feet tied near a school in Tilak Nagar area. We have issued a notice to the police and sought their reply.”

"The body of a woman was found lying near the wall of an MCD school located in Tilak Nagar. On the basis of initial facts, a case has been registered under section 302/201 of IPC. Several teams are working to identify the victim and the perpetrators. Investigation underway," Delhi Police said.
