Delhiites Wake Up To Hazy Morning As Dense Fog Covers National Capital

IMD has said that dense to very dense fog conditions over Punjab,  Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh to continue for the next two to three hours and improve gradually.

New Delhi: As the temparature drops in north India, dense fog covers were seen in Delhi this morning. Indian Meteorological Department has said that dense to very dense fog conditions over Punjab,  Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh to continue for the next two to three hours and improve gradually, news agency ANI reported on Tuesday.

Due to the fog, the Delhi Airport also tweeted a fog alert at 4.30 am and cautioned passengers about low visibility procedures being implemented. "Low Visibility Procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information," the tweet read.

IMD released a list of states with lowest visibility (in meters) reported at 5:30 am today. Visibility in Bathinda was 00 . The visibility in Amritsar, Ganganagar, Patiala, Delhi (Palam) and Lucknow was 25. As far as Delhi (SFD) and Purnea is concerned visibility stood at 50. The visibility in Ambala and Agra is 200. The visibility in Gorakhpur was 300. Visibility in Bareilly, Patna, Gaya and Kolkata stood at 500. 11 trains running late in the Northern Railway region due to fog.

Earlier on Sunday, dense fog enveloped the national capital which resulted in poor visibility across places.  Meanwhile, at least a dozen people were injured when 22 vehicles collided with each other on the Ambala-Saharanpur highway in Yamuna Nagar earlier on Sunday. Sources attributed the mishap due to low visibility caused by fog. In Odisha, a thick layer of fog engulfed state capital Bhubaneswar after the mercury dropped on Tuesday.

The fog resulted in reduced visibility in the region and the vehicles were seen with headlights on even during the day. The visibility has been very low due to heavy fog in several states for the last couple of days.
