Sanjay Singh To Be Released Today, Wife Says 'No Celebrations Until Delhi CM Returns'

Sanjay Singh, who was undergoing a routine checkup at ILBS hospital, received news of his bail, leading to his imminent discharge from the hospital. Scheduled to be released from Tihar by 2-3 pm.

Anita Singh, wife of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh, on Wednesday expressed gratitude towards the judiciary for granting bail to her husband. Sanjay Singh, who was undergoing a routine checkup at ILBS hospital, received news of his bail, leading to his imminent discharge from the hospital. His wife said he is scheduled to be released from Tihar by 2-3 pm.

She further said there would be no celebrations until other party leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendra Jain, are also released

"We will go to the temple to thank God. I also thank the judiciary for granting bail. I hope that my elder brothers Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain will also get bail soon. There will be no celebrations until all others are also released from jail," Anita Singh told ANI.

Sanjay Singh secured bail in the Delhi liquor scam money laundering case after the Supreme Court's decision on Tuesday. The bail plea went unopposed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Formalities for bail deposit will be completed by 10 am today, facilitating Sanjay Singh's release. The Supreme Court stipulated that his release would adhere to terms set by the trial court, allowing him to continue his political engagements.

Upon release, Sanjay Singh is expected to be welcomed at the Aam Aadmi Party headquarters, marking the launch of his Lok Sabha campaign. Notably, AAP's campaign trajectory is anticipated to be intertwined with Arvind Kejriwal's arrest.

The apex court's directive mandates Sanjay Singh's release "during pendency of proceedings," stipulating adherence to terms set by the trial court. AAP leader Somnath Bharti reacted to the bail by stating that the "federal agency stands exposed". Delhi minister Atishi Marlena echoed support through a post saying, “Satyamev Jayate”.

This development follows a Delhi court's decision to remand Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody until April 15 in the liquorgate scandal. The federal agency disclosed Kejriwal's statements involving AAP ministers Atishi and Saurabh in the excise policy case.

Previously, the Delhi High Court had denied bail to Sanjay Singh but directed the trial court to expedite proceedings upon commencement.

Sanjay Singh's arrest on October 4, 2023, marked the third such instance of an AAP leader's detention. The ED implicated Singh as a key conspirator in the alleged scam, alleging his association with suspects and the receipt of illegal proceeds.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attributed such arrests to the BJP's apprehensions of electoral defeat in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, citing intensified raids as evidence.

Before Sanjay Singh, his party colleague and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia faced arrest in the liquorgate scandal. Sisodia was initially arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 and later apprehended by the ED on March 9, where he remains in judicial custody.

The investigation pertains to the money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy introduced in 2021, subsequently scrapped. The policy aimed to privatize liquor sales, mitigate black marketing, and enhance consumer experience. An ED probe alleged money laundering in the matter, implicating a liquor lobby in kickbacks to AAP.
