Tamil Nadu: Stalker Fatally Stabs Teacher During Class At Thanjavur Govt School

During class hours, Madankumar entered the school and attacked Ramani, stabbing her in the neck.

A 26-year-old teacher at Mallipatnam Government High School in Thanjavur was fatally stabbed on Wednesday by a man reportedly enraged over unrequited love. The victim, Ramani, succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital.

The accused, 30-year-old Madankumar, had been harbouring a one-sided love for Ramani. Recently, he had approached her family with a marriage proposal, which was declined by her parents. Upset over the rejection, he arrived at the school armed with a knife.

During class hours, Madankumar entered the school and attacked Ramani, stabbing her in the neck. Colleagues and bystanders rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead upon arrival.

Following the incident, police apprehended Madankumar and have launched an investigation. The crime has caused widespread outrage and grief in the Thanjavur district, particularly among the school’s staff and students.

Authorities are examining the circumstances leading to the incident and have called for heightened security measures in educational institutions to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Taking to the social media platform X, the Minister shortly after the incident said, “Violence against teachers cannot be tolerated. Strict legal action will be taken against the attacker. We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, students and fellow teachers of teacher Ramani.”

Education Minister Poyyamozhi, speaking to reporters in Chennai, described her death as a "huge loss" for the teaching community and confirmed that the perpetrator has been arrested.

The Minister added that Chief Minister MK Stalin has instructed him to visit Thanjavur to console the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami condemned the murder, stating that the incident highlights the lack of safety and security for government teachers and doctors at their workplaces.
