Caught On Camera: Men Assault, Stab 25-Year Old Multiple Times In Crowded Delhi Market
The accused have been identified and efforts are being made to nab them, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Benita Mary Jaiker.
A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death by a group of people in full public view in a crowded market in Delhi's Malviya Nagar area. The attack, which happened on Thursday, was captured on CCTV and the horrific video has gone viral on social media.
The victim has been identified as one Mayank Panwar, a resident of Shahpur Jat, PTI reported. Mayank had done a course in hotel management and was currently unemployed, police said.
Vikas Panwar, Mayank's friend, told police that the incident happened around 7 pm on Thursday when both of them were sitting at Qila, Begumpur, in Malviya Nagar. Soon, Mayank had a heated argument with 4-5 men.
After the argument, the men went away but returned soon and pelted Vikas and Mayank with stones, PTI quoted police as syaing.
"The duo fled the spot but the group chased down Mayank near gate number 3 of the DDA Market and stabbed him multiple times," Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Benita Mary Jaiker said.
In the video, Mayank is seen running and being chased by some people in the crowded market. However, he is soon caught and one of the accused, wearing white pants, stabs him several times.
People and motorists passing by the busy road make no attempt to stop the attack. The attackers are then seen running away from the area.
Mayank was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre but he died later.
Police were alerted about the incident after they received a call on Thursday about stabbing of a man near gate number 3 of Begumpur's DDA Market.
A case under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC has been registered and an investigation is on, police said.
The accused have been identified and efforts are being made to nab them, Jaiker said. The motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
