‘Govt Has A Role In This’: RG Kar Victim’s Father Blames TMC-Led Govt Over Kolkata Law Student Gangrape

Kolkata law student gangrape has reignited memories of last year’s rape and murder of an intern at RG Kar Medical College, which had sparked a major political uproar in West Bengal.

Just months after the brutal rape and murder of a medical intern at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital shocked Bengal, Kolkata is once again gripped by a crime. A 24-year-old law student has alleged she was gang-raped on June 25 inside South Calcutta Law College, triggering sharp criticism of institutional safety and governance in the state. The father of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim, who has become a symbol of the fight for justice in Bengal, reacted with heartbreak and fury over the latest case.

RG Kar Medical College Victim's Father Speaks Out Again

Talking to ANI, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder victim's father said, "Such incidents are happening again and again. After what happened with my daughter, many people came out on the streets in protest. Even after that, such incidents continue to occur. People inside the college are committing such incidents. The government has a significant role in this, which is why all these incidents are happening."

He pointed to the political affiliations of the accused in the latest case, all three of whom are reportedly linked to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). "All three people arrested are from the TMC, so this political party should ensure that such incidents do not happen again... The accused should be severely punished," he said.

Accused Tied To TMC?

Three individuals — a former student and two current students — have been arrested in connection with the case. A senior police official confirmed that the medical examination has corroborated the victim’s claims.

Social media profiles of the prime accused indicate he held positions in the TMC’s student wing, serving as a former TMCP college president and an organisational secretary in South Kolkata. While the TMC has distanced itself from the accused, it has called for “severe punishment” if the charges are proven.

BJP Blames TMC

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) escalated its attack on the ruling party, accusing it of turning educational institutions into political bastions. In a sharp post on X, the BJP said, “South Kolkata Law College is filled with images of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. This is exactly what educational institutions should not look like.”

"Failure in everything, the only success of TMC is politicising every government institution of Bengal while degrading their standards and making Bengal increasingly unsafe for common people," it added.
