Jalandhar DSP Murder: Punjab Cops Follow CCTV Clips' Trail To Nab Suspected Killer
Punjab Crime News: An altercation ensued between deceased Jalandhar DSP Dalbir Singh and auto driver Vijay Kumar when Kumar refused to ferry the cop from Kapurthala's Khajewal village.
After the lifeless body of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dalbir Singh was discovered near Jalandhar's Bawa Khel Canal, the police on Wednesday arrested an auto driver identified as Vijay Kumar within 60 hours of the crime by combing through CCTV footage. According to inputs, an altercation ensued between deceased DSP Dalbir Singh and auto driver Vijay Kumar when Kumar refused to ferry the cop from Kapurthala's Khajewal village.
The dispute escalated to a point where DSP Singh, an Arjuna awardee, brandished his revolver. In the ensuing scuffle, a bullet from Singh's own firearm pierced his forehead.

During the murder investigation, the police meticulously scrutinised CCTV footage, which captured the DSP's last moments. The footage revealed Singh at Workshop Chowk with an auto driver before heading towards Kapurthala Chowk. The police subsequently visited a local establishment where DSP Singh was seen consuming alcohol. During the inquiry, it was uncovered that an auto driver had accompanied the senior cop.

According to Vijay Kumar's statement during police interrogation, he believed DSP Dalbir Singh was pretending to be an officer under the influence of alcohol. Kumar claimed that Singh was portraying himself as a DSP to create a scene and, following a verbal altercation, he instructed him to drop him home late at night. However, when Kumar refused, a heated argument ensued, culminating in an unexpected gunshot.
As per NDTV's report, the Mobile signal data in the canal area was also reportedly analysed to aid in the investigation. The accused is said to have shot the deceased cop on his head after snatching his service pistol and the murder weapon, a handgun, was found near the body, the report mentioned.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav took to X and posted: "Punjab Police solves blind murder case of Late DSP Dalbir Singh @CPJalandhar has worked out the case in 2 days with the arrest of the culprit and seizure of murder weapon. May his soul RIP! Our prayers are with the family, relatives and everyone who worked with him".
