Man Arrested For Rape, Murder Of Teen In Gujarat Confesses To Killing At Least 5 More People

The rape and murder of a 19-year-old in Valsad, Gujarat opened a can of worms regarding the accused, Rahul Singh Jat, after his arrest.

A man who was arrested for the alleged rape and murder of a teen in Gujarat’s Valsad district has been accused of killing at least five more people in less than one month. The accused, identified as Rahul Singh Jat alias Bholu, hails from Rohtak, Haryana. 

Police claim that Rahul was a serial killer. In Valsad, he allegedly raped and killed a 19-year-old, the teen was found near the tracks close to Udvada railway station on November 14, according to India Today. The girl was returning home in the evening from tuition and was talking on the phone when she was attacked. 

According to India Today, he continued to rape the teen even after killing her. After committing the crime, the accused went to the nearest shop for breakfast and also bought a cold drink to bring back to the crime scene and further rape the corpse. But when he saw that people had already gathered around the body, he fled from the scene. 

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and further revealed that he had committed five murders in the last 25 days at different places across the country. Valsad Superintendent of Police (SP), Karanraj Vaghela said that Rahul would move around a lot as he took advantage of his disability and travelled for free through the railway.

As per IANS, more than 13 cases related to robbery, dacoity, rape, and murder are registered against the accused in different states across the country. He was arrested at the Vapi railway station, then confessed to the police about raping and murdering at least five women. Valsad police have also informed the police in other states about the accused and have started questioning him in connection with the rape and murder case.

Although the accused was produced in the Valsad court, he has been sent on police remand for 10 days. Valsad police have started preliminary questioning of the accused. According to IANS, aside from Valsad, complaints have been filed against the accused at the Mulki police station in Bengaluru, Howrah police station in West Bengal, Secunderabad police station in Telangana and Guti police station in Andhra Pradesh. Rahul has more than a dozen cases registered against him in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh as well. 

Of the crimes he committed, Rahul also confessed to murdering Soumitra Chatterjee, the tabla teacher who was physically disabled in West Bengal. According to The Times Of India report, the accused’s primary motive appears to be robbery.

Chatterjee's body was found on November 19 in a compartment of the Howrah-bound Katihar Express with five stab wounds. Police suspect that he was murdered on the train near the Bengal-Bihar border, shortly before it reached Malda.

Rahul has studied till Class 5 and has been involved in criminal activities such as theft since childhood. Due to these habits, his family broke ties with him, as per India Today.
