Delhi: Two Stray Puppies Strangled And Hanged To Death in Dwarka, Delhi Police File FIR

According to the Facebook post, the incident took place on Tuesday evening.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, two stray dogs have been allegedly strangled to death in Delhi's Dwarka neighbourhood, police officials said on Thursday. The carcasses of the three-month-old puppies were hung at a vacant plot in the area.

The matter came to light after senior Congress leader and lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi shared a screenshot of a Facebook post informing about the alleged incident, PTI reported.

"This is unbelievable. How. Anyone can think of doing this, much less do it, is unimaginable. Logic says no but the full force of the heart says the perpetrators must meet same fate as victims," Singhvi tweeted.

The Facebook post showed the purported photos of two dogs. One of them is seen hanging from a tree, while the carcass of the other is lying on the ground.

"Two 3-month-old stray puppies were strangled and hanged to death respectively in the empty plot next to Azad Hind aptts in sector 9 Dwarka Delhi in the evening of 27th December when they were left alone after their mother was taken away for sterilization. The puppies were healthy, immunized and dewormed and well-fed. They used to remain inside the vacant plot itself. Four of their siblings who survived have been shifted to a local shelter till their mother returns after sterilization," the Facebook post reads.

Following the shocking incident, the puppies' four siblings have been shifted to a nearby animal shelter to keep them safe, the post read.

Harsha Vardhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), said that a complaint was received on Wednesday regarding the killing of stray dogs in a secluded park in Dwarka Sector-9, reported PTI.

"A case under Indian Penal Code section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) was registered on Wednesday at Dwarka South police station. The post-mortem of the carcasses was conducted. Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the accused," PTI said quoting Harsha Vardhan.

The incident triggered massive outrage and calls for legal action against those responsible.
