Chandigarh: Married Man Strangles Teen Who Spurned His Advances

A 25-year-old man killed an 18-year-old woman in Chandigarh after she spurned his advances.

A 25-year-old man allegedly strangled a teen from Chandigarh after she rebuffed his advances. The victim, an 18-year-old named Mamta, was found unconscious at her home by her mother on November 19. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead.

The accused, Md Shariq from Bihar, was arrested and sent to judicial remand.

According to the police, Shariq went to Mamta’s house in Burail Sector 45 to talk to her. But she spurned his advances. Ram Gopal, DSP, Chandigarh Police said: “Angry at this, he strangled her. It's a matter of one-sided love.”

The Police said that Shariq was already married, yet he wanted to be with Mamta. His wife lives in Bihar.

According to a report by Newsroom Post, The victim's mother Champa Devi is a domestic help. She found Mamta unconscious on November 19 when she came back home and rushed her to the hospital. Police said that CCTV footage from the locality showed Aftab entering Mamta's house that day.

Shariq has been charged with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
