Bengal: Another Assault Caught On Camera; Ariadaha Teen, Mother Hospitalised After Attack

West Bengal is seemingly seeing an increase in mob assaults. In the latest incident, a teenager and his mother were assaulted in Ariadaha, North 24 Parganas district.

Instances of alleged mob assault on individuals in Bengal seem to have increased in recent times. Barely a couple of days after the video of a couple being assaulted in front of a crowd in Chopra, a teenager and his mother were assaulted in Ariadaha in the North 24 Parganas district of Bengal. The duo had to be hospitalised in a critical condition. The incident was even captured on CCTV cameras.

Previously, a couple was publicly assaulted in Chopra, while a woman was attacked in Cooch Behar. Now, in Ariadaha, too, a Trinamool-backed miscreant and his gang have been accused of assaulting the mother-son duo.

How The Incident In Ariadaha Unfolded

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the college student clashed with a local. After that, Jayant Singh, who is purportedly backed by the ruling TMC, allegedly attacked the student with his aides. The teenager was assaulted with sticks and bricks in front of his house. Hearing his screams, his mother rushed in to save him.

The miscreants did not spare her either and thrashed her. Both sustained severe injuries and had to be hospitalised. The local Belgharia police have already arrested six people in the incident.

Locals claimed the accused had even indulged in opening fire earlier. Trinamool leader and Chairman of Kamarhati Municipality Gopal Saha has assured the strictest action over the incident.

Woman Assaulted In Cooch Behar

The Ariadaha incident comes on the heels of the Cooch Behar incident wherein a woman was assaulted allegedly by Trinamool-backed miscreants. The woman claims to be associated with the BJP. She met Governor CV Ananda Bose and said that she was confident of getting "justice" from him.

"TMC people beat me up. I was stripped and thrashed. I don't trust Mamata Banerjee and the Police. I am associated with the BJP," he said.

Chopra Flogging Case

The Bengal Police have registered several serious charges against the accused, purported TMC strongman Tajemul Islam, in the Chopra couple case. Hussain was arrested for flogging a couple in Bengal's Chopra.

Among the charges slapped against him are assault with intent to outrage the modesty of a woman, attempt to murder, and causing grievous hurt, reported The Hindu.

He is an aide of Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahman, who was arrested in 2023. Rahman had been arrested for his alleged role in the murder of CPI(M) leader Mansur Naimul.

The BJP is staging protests in various places in the state over the multiple assaults on individuals.
