Vadodara Car Crash Accused Was Over-Speeding For 'Enjoyment', Says Injured Victim

One of the injured victims, Vikas Kewalani, said that the accused was over-speeding for enjoyment and called for strict punishment.

The accused driver in the Vadodara car crash incident, that killed one woman, was over-speeding in "enjoyment", a man who was injured in the accident has alleged.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday when a law student at MS University rammed his speeding cars into several vehicles in the Karelibaug area of the city. At least four people were injured in the accident while a woman, identified as Hemali Patel was killed.

'Was Over-Speeding For Fun'

One of the injured victims, Vikas Kewalani said he was on a two-wheeler with his brother and sister when he saw a speeding car hit them and a car as well.

"Two people from my society and I had gone out for refreshment. One of them was Hemali Patel, her husband is in critical condition...we were on our two-wheeler and suddenly, an overspeeding car rammed into our vehicle," Kewalani recalled.

"When I fell, I was awake, and I saw that the car had hit the other vehicle as well and it flew through the air, husband and wife had suffered serious injuries," he added.

Kewalani said that such incidents can't be controlled with fines and called for strict punishment. "Fine is not the solution, they will realise their mistakes only when strict punishment is taken against them," he said.

"My brother and sister have sustained fractures. I fractured my right-hand elbow...the accused (Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia) looked intoxicated...he was doing it (over-speeding) for enjoyment purposes," Kewalani said.

According to an NDTV report, Hemali Patel (35) and Purav Patel (40) had gone out with their daughter to buy colours on Holi eve. While Hemali lost her life in the crash, Purav is under treatment for critical injuries while their daughter, too has suffered injuries.
