Mayawati Elevates Akash Anand To Key Role In BSP Ahead Of Bihar Polls For Nephew’s Comeback

Mayawati instated Akash Anand as the BSP's Chief National Coordinator, a newly created position for his comeback. He's also a star campaigner for Bihar elections, where BSP will contest independently.

In a significant development in Uttar Pradesh politics, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has appointed Akash Anand as the party’s Chief National Coordinator, marking his prominent return to the organisation. Anand, who was expelled from the BSP in February this year and reinstated in April, has now been handed a key role ahead of upcoming political battles.

According to a press release issued by the BSP, Mayawati announced Anand’s elevation with the consensus of party members. “With the agreement of party members, Akash Anand has been made the party’s Chief National Coordinator and assigned future programmes of the party across the country,” the statement said.

Mayawati expressed hope that Anand would contribute positively to strengthening the party and the movement. “It is expected that this time, by taking all necessary precautions in the interest of the party and the movement, he will make a commendable contribution in strengthening the BSP,” she remarked, as quoted in the BSP’s press release.

BSP Creates Post For Akash Anand, Gives Star Campaigner Role For Bihar Polls

The appointment of Akash Anand comes with the creation of a new post — the Chief National Coordinator — which did not exist earlier in the BSP. Previously, the party only had a Chief Coordinator position. This comes as Mayawati previously stated that she would not announce an heir for her party till she is active.

In addition to his national responsibilities, Mayawati has also declared Anand a star campaigner for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections slated for later this year. The press note further stated that a separate meeting was held regarding the Bihar elections, during which it was decided that the BSP would contest independently with full preparation.

Mayawati also addressed broader national concerns, stressing the need for a firm stance against terrorism. “Strong and effective measures against terrorism are necessary so that the country can focus its attention and resources fully towards achieving the aspirations of a developed India by freeing people from the distressing life of extreme inflation, vast poverty, unemployment, and backwardness,” she said.

She also urged state governments to strictly curb incidents that incite hatred and enmity in society, such as the disrespect shown towards statues of Gautam Buddha and Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

The BSP further emphasised the need to reorganise the Bahujan Volunteer Force (BVF) to ensure the smooth execution of party programmes across the country.
