India's Longest Bridge In Bihar: The construction of a 10.2-kilometre-long bridge over the Kosi River, connecting Bakaur in Supaul district to Bheja in Madhubani district, is progressing at a rapid pace under the Bharatmala Project. Bihar’s Road Construction Minister, Vijay Sinha, said that the bridge is expected to be operational by December 2025.
At present, the record for the longest bridge is held by the Bhupen Hazarika Setu, also known as the Dhola Sadiya Bridge. It's a 9.50-kilometre bridge that connects Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1,199.58 crore, which includes Rs 1,101.99 crore allocated for civil works. Most of the 171 pillars have been completed, and work on 70 out of 170 spans has been finished. Authorities have directed that the remaining spans be completed by June 2025. Upon completion, the bridge will reduce the distance between Supaul and Madhubani by 30 kilometres, significantly cutting down travel time and improving connectivity.
