Customs Seizes Gold Coins Worth Rs 7.8 Crore From 2 Flyers From Milan At Delhi Airport
The Air Intelligence Unit of Customs in Delhi detained two Kashmiri passengers arriving from Milan and seized 10.092 kg of gold coins worth Rs 7.8 crore.
In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs Department seized 10kg of gold coins worth Rs 7.8 crore from two passengers at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport Delhi, officials said on Wednesday.

The two male passengers aged 45 and 43, arrived from Milan on Flight AI-138 on February 5 and were intercepted based on specific intelligence. As per the report, the duo belong to Kashmir.
"Two passengers were intercepted at the Green Channel following suspicious behaviour. While an initial baggage scan did not reveal anything unusual, a personal search triggered by the Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) led to the recovery of the concealed gold", the official said.
Confirming the news, Delhi Customs (Airport & General) took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted, "In a swift operation based on specific intelligence, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs, IGI Airport, New Delhi, intercepted two male passengers (aged 45,43 years) belonging to Kashmir, arriving from Milan via Flight AI-138 on 05.02.2025. During discreet surveillance and profiling, suspicious behavior was observed, leading to the interception of both individuals at the Green Channel. While baggage scans revealed nothing unusual, a personal search triggered by DFMD alerts led to the discovery of 10.092 kg of gold, valued at approximately ₹7.8 Crores!"

The officials added that the passengers have been detained for further investigation under the Customs Act, 1962.
