Stock Market Today: Sensex, Nifty Extends Losses For 6th Consecutive Day

Notable decliners on the BSE Sensex included Kotak, RIL, Tech M, M&M and Asian Paints. On the upside, key gainers were HUL, Nestle, NTPC, Adani Ports and Power Grid

India's benchmark indices continued their downward trajectory on Thursday, extending their correction phase for a sixth consecutive session. The Nifty ended the day below the 23,550 mark, weighed down by selling pressure in FMCG, PSU Bank, and oil & gas stocks.

At the close, the Sensex had dropped 110.64 points, or 0.14 per cent, settling at 77,580.31, while the Nifty slipped 26.35 points, or 0.11 per cent, to close at 23,532.70. For the week, both the BSE Sensex and Nifty recorded a decline of 2.5 per cent each.

The market started flat and traded in positive territory for the first few hours. However, selling at higher levels erased most of the intraday gains, pushing the Nifty below the 23,500 mark. However, buying interest in realty, auto, and media stocks helped the index recover slightly, allowing the Nifty to close just above 23,500, even amid ongoing volatility.

The market will remain closed on Friday, November 15, in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Among the sectors, FMCG, power, PSU Bank, and oil and gas saw losses ranging from 0.3 per cent to 1 per cent, while auto, media, and realty stocks posted gains of 0.6 per cent to 2 per cent.

Notable decliners on the BSE Sensex included Kotak, RIL, Tech M, M&M and Asian Paints. On the upside, key gainers were HUL, Nestle, NTPC, Adani Ports and Power Grid.

The BSE Midcap index rose by 0.4 per cent, while the Smallcap index gained nearly 1 per cent on the day.

Around 140 stocks reached their 52-week highs on the BSE, including notable names such as HCL Technologies, Banco Products, Kiri Industries, Garware HiTech, JSW Holdings, Sasken Technologies, Pix Transmissions, AMI Organics, Timex Group, and Vikas WSP, among others.

On the flip side, nearly 150 stocks hit their 52-week lows, with prominent decliners including Nestle India, IndusInd Bank, Sheela Foam, Chennai Petro, Westlife Food, TCI Express, Happiest Minds, Mahindra Life, Tanla Platforms, CreditAccess Grameen, Tata Elxsi, Sun Pharma Advanced, Relaxo Footwear, Birla Corp, Vodafone Idea, Equitas Bank, Restaurant Brands, Trident, Prince Pipes, and others.
