Stock Market Holiday In October: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE will remain closed on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, in observance of Gandhi Jayanti. The holiday marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
As a result, all trading activities, including equity, equity derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments, will be suspended for the day. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also remain closed, with both trading sessions canceled in observance of the holiday.
Normal operations will resume on Thursday, October 3, allowing investors to return to the market after the midweek break.
The stock market operates from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with a pre-open session from 9:00 AM to 9:07 AM. The exchanges remain closed on weekends.
Remaining Stock Market Holidays for 2024:
Diwali (Laxmi Pujan): A special trading session, known as Muhurat trading, will be held on November 1, 2024, to mark the auspicious occasion of Diwali and Laxmi Pujan.
Gurunanak Jayanti: The market will be closed on November 15, 2024, in observance of Gurunanak Jayanti.
Christmas: The stock market will remain closed on December 25, 2024, for Christmas celebrations.
Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain shut for both the sessions on Wednesday, (October 2).

The two key equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, on Tuesday are trading higher amid volatility, led by overnight gains on the Wall Street. At 10.10 am, the BSE Sensex rose 131 points to 84,431. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 was trading at 25,839, up 28 points.
In the previous session on Monday, the 30-share Sensex platform fell 1272 points to end at 84,299. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 slumped 368 points to 25,810.
