Stock Market: Sensex Rises 99 Points, Nifty Closes Above 18,300 Amid Volatility. Realty, Auto Lead
Stock update: On the 30-share Sensex platform, Airtel, ITC, Kotak Bank, L&T, Power Grid, Bajaj Finance emerged winners
The two key equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, on Thursday closed in the green after the indices swung between gains and losses amid monthly F&O expiry for May series.
The S&P BSE Sensex oscillated between 61,484.6 and 61,926, before ending at 61,873, up 99 points. On the other hand, the Nifty50 settled at 18,321, up 36 points or 0.20 per cent. The index gyrated between 18,202 and 18,338 during intraday.
On the 30-share Sensex platform, Airtel, ITC, Kotak Bank, L&T, Power Grid, Bajaj Finance emerged winners. On the flipside, Wipro, Tata Motors, HDFC, Sun Pharma, IndusInd Bank, HUL were among the losers.

In the broader markets, BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices outperformed the benchmarks as both the indices registered gains of up to 0.36 per cent.
Among sectors, except for metal and PSU Bank, all other sectoral indices ended in the green with the Realty index up 1 per cent, while auto, capital goods, FMCG and power up 0.5 per cent each.
In the previous session on Wednesday, the S&P BSE Sensex declined 208 points to 61,774, on the other hand the Nifty50 shut shop at 18,285, down 62 points.
Meanwhile, the rupee fell 7 paise to close at 82.75 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday, weighed down by the strength of the American currency in the overseas market.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.76 against the dollar, and finally settled at 82.75 (provisional), down 7 paise from its previous close. During the day, the rupee touched a high of 82.70 and a low of 82.78 against the greenback.
On Wednesday, the rupee had settled at 82.68 against the dollar. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.13 per cent to 104.02.
