Former Netflix Employee Recounts Manager's Low Emotional Intelligence Prompted Him To Quit

A former Netflix employee alleges that he left the streaming giant due to his manager's "lack of emotional intelligence" and joined Amazon instead. Kvon Tucker shared on the Meta-owned microblogging platform Threads that he would never forget the incident when his Netflix manager shouted at him in front of his colleagues.
“I was trying my hardest to meet my new Manager's expectations. This was my first job in tech! I was over-the-moon excited to be working for a company that I admired so much,” wrote Tucker.
He mentioned that in the early months of his tenure at Netflix, he actively built rapport with his teammates and learned a lot. However, there came a pivotal moment he could never erase from memory. While working as usual, Tucker's manager approached him and called out loudly enough for everyone nearby to hear, "Kvon! Will you come here, please?"
Tucker recounted nervously approaching his manager, who directed his attention to an email on her screen and asked him to clarify. Confused, Tucker explained it was an update for a client project. However, his manager's demeanour reportedly grew more agitated in response.
“Well, it's all wrong! You're not communicating what the client really needs,” she said.
This confused Tucker, who responded with a hesitant "okay," which seemed to further provoke her. According to Tucker, his manager then proceeded to "yell at the top of her voice."
“I go back to my desk, anxious and emotionally flooded. After staring at my computer blankly for a few moments, I decide to go outside for a walk,” he wrote in the post. Distraught, Tucker immediately called his wife, almost in tears, and recounted how his manager had yelled at him in front of his colleagues.
Upon hearing about the incident, his wife simply advised, “You need to not be working for her anymore.”
“And immediately, I know this to be true. It is at that moment that I decide this Manager is no longer the Manager for me," Tucker wrote. Therefore, when an opportunity arose at Amazon, he, as he put it, "embraced it."
He explained that despite his fondness for Netflix and his colleagues, he left due to irreparable damage caused by his manager's "low emotional intelligence.”
Tucker’s LinkedIn profile indicates that he worked as a Senior Learning & Development Consultant at Netflix from November 2015 to April 2017.
