Is Ratan Tata's Dog 'Goa' Dead? Mumbai Police Officer Clarifies Rumour

Ratan Tata was widely recognised for his love for dogs and his dedication to the welfare of stray animals. He notably worked to ensure the safety of abandoned pets, especially during the monsoon

Mumbai Police Senior Inspector Sudhir Kudalkar has dismissed the rumours circulating on social media regarding the death of late Ratan Tata's pet dog, Goa. A WhatsApp message claiming that Goa had died shortly after Tata passed away was being widely shared. It reads: "Sad news... Tatas pet dog GOA dies after 3 days of his death. That's why they say that dogs are more faithful to their masters, than human beings."

In response to the misleading message, Inspector Kudalkar took to social media to confirm that the pet was alive. He said he had got in touch with Ratan Tata's friend, Shantanu Naidu, who assured him that Goa was fine: "...don't worry. This is Fake News."

Inspector Sudhir shared an Instagram reel with the caption: “A WhatsApp message is circulating about Late Ratan Tata Ji’s pet dog, Goa, passed away. I verified this with Shantanu Naidu, who is also known as a close friend of Tata Ji, and he confirmed that Goa is doing fine. Please make sure to verify facts before sharing posts."

Ratan Tata, one of the most loved industrialists and philanthropists in India, who was also a devoted animal lover, passed away at 86 in Mumbai. Tata was widely recognised for his compassion toward dogs and his dedication to the welfare of stray animals. He had worked to ensure the safety of abandoned pets, especially during the monsoon season when strays often seek shelter under vehicles. During his funeral, Ratan Tata's beloved dog Goa was present to pay his respects.

The name 'Goa' carries a touching backstory: while in Goa, a stray dog begins to follow Ratan Tata, prompting him to adopt the dog and bring him to Mumbai. 'Goa' then lived alongside other stray dogs at the Bombay House, the headquarters of the Tata Group, which, like the iconic Taj Hotel, is known for its welcoming attitude towards strays.
