Bank Holiday Alert: 3 Day Closure In Select Cities! Plan Your Appointments Now

India’s banking holidays vary widely across states, reflecting the country’s diverse cultural, religious, and regional calendars.

Banking services in certain parts of the country will be unavailable for three days during the upcoming week, owing to a combination of a regional festival and regular weekend closures. As per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar, these non-working days fall between June 9 and June 15, 2025.

Are Banks Closed On June 11?

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, banks in Shimla and Gangtok will observe a holiday to mark Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti. This annual observance commemorates the birth anniversary of Kabir Das, the revered 15th-century mystic poet and saint.  The day is marked with cultural events and tributes to the teachings of Kabir across many regions, prompting a partial suspension of banking operations where the festival holds regional significance.

Bank Closures Over The Weekend

In addition to the midweek closure, banks across India will remain closed on Saturday, June 14, 2025, as it is the second Saturday of the month. As mandated by the RBI, all banks observe a holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays. Following that, Sunday, June 15, is also a regular non-working day for all banks nationwide.

Taking these dates into account, bank branches in Shimla and Gangtok will be closed on three occasions during the week: June 11, June 14, and June 15.

India’s banking holidays vary widely across states, reflecting the country’s diverse cultural, religious, and regional calendars. While the second and fourth Saturdays, along with Sundays, are standard closures, other holidays depend on local festivals and traditions.

Digital Services to Function Without Interruption

Despite physical branches being shut, digital banking will continue to function smoothly throughout the holiday period. Customers can perform various transactions via net banking and mobile apps. Fund transfers through NEFT and RTGS remain operational online. Additionally, services such as applying for chequebooks, debit or credit cards, and lockers can be availed digitally. Card-based transactions through ATMs and point-of-sale machines will also remain unaffected.

For those needing to conduct essential financial tasks, planning ahead is advisable, especially in regions where an additional midweek holiday is being observed.
