Auto Sales: Maruti, Hyundai See Dip In Wholesales In January; M&M, Kia Shine

Maruti Suzuki has logged a 3.96 per cent fall in total wholesales at 1,54,379 units in January, 2022

New Delhi: Auto companies in India released their dispatches and sales figures on February 1.

Barring Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Tata Motors, and Kia Motors, most auto firms have reported a dip in their sales numbers. India’s largest auto company Maruti Suzuki has also reported a decline in sales in January.

Maruti Suzuki has logged a 3.96 per cent fall in total wholesales at 1,54,379 units in January, 2022. The company had sold 1,60,752 units in January 2021, the company said in a statement.

Last month, the company’s domestic sales skidded 8 per cent to 1,36,442 units as against 1,48,307 units in January 2021, it added.

The company said, “The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles which are primarily sold in domestic market. It took all measures to minimise the impact,” MSI stated.

Sales of cars such as the Alto and S-Presso, declined 25.91 per cent to 18,634 units as compared with 25,153 in the same month last year. Sales in models such as the Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, and Dzire have also slumped 7.1 per cent to 71,472 units as against 76,935 units in January 2021.

The country's second-largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India has clocked 11.11 per cent decline in total sales at 53,427 units in January 2022. The company had sold 60,105 cars in the same month last year, the company said. Hyundai’s domestic sales were down 15.35 per cent to 44,022 units last month as against 52,005 units in January 2021, the company added.

On the other hand, M&M has said its total sales rose by 19.55 per cent to 46,804 units in January 2022. The company’s total sales stood at 39,149 units in January 2021.

M&M’s passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 19,964 units last month as against 20,634 units in January last year, while commercial vehicles sales increased to 23,979 units last month as compared with 16,229 units in January 2021.

Tata Motors has posted 27 per cent year-on-year growth in total vehicle sales, including in the global markets, at 76,210 units in January 2022. The company's total sales in January 2021 was 59,866 vehicles, Tata Motors said in a statement.

Total domestic sales of Tata Motors grew 26 per cent at 72,485 units in January 2022 as against 57,649 vehicles sold in the same month last year, it said.

Kia India has logged an increase in sales of 1.38 per cent to 19,319 units in January 2022 as compared with 19,056 units in the year-ago month. The company said Seltos led the sales last month with the dispatch of 11,483 units to dealers.

Kia said that the automaker is confident that the introduction of the three-row recreational vehicle, Kia Carens, will strengthen its position in the Indian market.

Hinduja flagship firm Ashok Leyland has posted a 6 per cent increase in total commercial vehicle sales to 13,939 units in January 2022. The company had sold 13,126 units in the same month last year, Ashok Leyland said.
