Adani Power Commissions 'Godda Power Plant' In Jharkhand, Begins Electricity Supply To Bangladesh

Adani Power Ltd has announced the commissioning of its first 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power-producing unit in Godda, Jharkhand, and has begun supplying 748 MW of power to Bangladesh.

Adani Power Ltd has announced the commissioning of its first 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power-producing unit in the Godda district of Jharkhand and has begun supplying 748 MW of power to Bangladesh. The Godda Power Plant consists of two units of the most advanced technology available in the world, which is ultra-supercritical technology with cutting-edge approaches for reducing emissions and coal and water consumption. 

"The Godda power plant is a strategic asset in the longstanding India-Bangladesh relationship," said SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power Limited, adding that the power plant will improve Bangladesh's electricity supply, making its industries and ecosystem more competitive.

"It will be the most efficient and environment-friendly thermal power plant in India and the entire South-East region, as well as one of the best in class in the world," he said.

The business also stated that it is the country's first power plant to begin operations with 100% flue gas desulphurization (FGD), selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and zero water discharge. The FGD and SCR have been placed at the facility to reduce emissions and meet the ministry of environment, forest, and climate change's most recent environmental standards.

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) in November 2017 with APL's wholly-owned subsidiary Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL) to purchase 1,496 MW net capacity power from the Godda 2X800 MW ultra-supercritical power plant. The private sector's largest power producer in India is set to commission its second 800 MW unit soon. 

Bangladesh boasts one of the largest liquid fuel-powered power stations in the Indian subcontinent. Heavy fuel oil (HFO)-based plants have an installed capacity of approximately 6,329 MW, while high-speed diesel (HSD)-based plants have an installed capacity of approximately 1,290 MW, totaling over 7,600 MW.

Adani Power has 13,610 MW of installed thermal power capacity split among seven power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, in addition to a 40 MW solar power facility in Gujarat.
