Toyota Hilux vs Isuzu D Max V-Cross: Which Pickup Truck Is Better? Know Specifications, Price & Features
The Hilux is huge with a massive chrome grille and an upright stance. The same can be said with the V-Cross, so which is a better buy?
India never has had any history with pick-up trucks but with Isuzu coming in, their V-Cross has been quite successful in establishing the pick-up segment. Similarly, now Toyota is here with its Hilux pick-up and the Hilux is actually one of the most famous products with the Toyota badge. Hence, with the Hilux, which pick-up truck should you now consider, Hilux or V-Cross? Read on.
Looks
The Hilux is even longer than the V-Cross and both are huge pick-ups. Both also share the same width while the Hilux has more ground clearance. Both pick-ups are available with double cab configurations while that adds to the length. The Hilux is huge with a massive chrome grille and an upright stance. The same can be said with the V-Cross. The Hilux also gets 18-inch wheels along with the V-Cross which also gets big wheels. Internationally, the V-Cross has now been updated but India still gets the old version while the Hilux on sale here from March will be the latest generation model.
Interior and features
The Hilux and V-cross come with well-appointed interiors hence both are quite premium. That said, the Hilux has a more modern cabin design with a rugged twist. The V-Cross since it is the older generation model has dated interiors. Both get touchscreen systems but the Hilux gets more features like dual-zone climate control, smartphone connectivity, front parking sensors plus rear, leather seats too. Both get a rearview camera.
Engine
The Hilux comes with a 2.8l diesel engine which develops 204bhp, 500Nm- 420Nm in case of the manual. The Hilux gives you the option of either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic while 4x4 is standard. The Isuzu meanwhile comes with a 1.9l diesel engine with 163 hp and in manual/automatic form while, unlike the Hilux, 4x2 is also there along with 4x4. Both pick-up trucks are excellent off-road with high water wading ability between 700-800mm along with excellent approach/departure angles for off-roading.
Price
The prices of the Hilux have not been announced but they will in March, while we do expect it to be cheaper than the Fortuner 4x4. The current 4x4 range starts at 36 lakh for the Fortuner while we expect 25-35 lakhs being the pricing for the Hilux. The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross meanwhile is priced between Rs 22-25 lakh. It is clear that while the V-Cross is cheaper, the Hilux is more modern and comes with a better interior plus more features and power. The Hilux is better suited also for its better sales network and Toyota reliability while Isuzu has fewer dealers in India. That said, the affordable V-Cross will have its own fan following while Hilux will attract more premium buyers.
