New Delhi: Honda recently launched the City e:HEV hybrid and now it has revealed its new ZR-V SUV for global markets. The big news is that the new ZR-V gets a hybrid powertrain and it is called a Sports e:HEV.
The ZR-V is a premium crossover of sorts that has a 2.0-liter direct injection engine and also comes with a 2-motor hybrid system (e-CVT). There is also a 1.5 litre turbo petrol and a CVT gearbox. However, design-wise the new SUV is aggressive looking and certainly is one of the most interesting cars to come out from the Honda stables.
The front end has a Maserati-like grille and we like the way the roof tapers down. At this moment, the ZR-V is a Japanese market model but we think it makes perfect sense as a rival to the likes of the Toyota Hyryder as a premium hybrid SUV.
The interior is also quite luxurious with a wide-feeling dashboard design with a line that runs across the dash plus digital instruments. While Honda is developing an SUV for India it is a more affordable one but we think as a premium Honda hybrid SUV, the new ZR-V makes perfect sense for our market with its new attractive styling and feature-packed interiors.
It would be in the Jeep Compass/ top-end Toyota Hyryder price territory if considered for launch here. Let's hope Honda thinks like us too as hybrids are suddenly talked about in India with Honda itself plus Maruti/Toyota bringing their hybrids into the competitive end of the market.
